At the southwestern tip of its beautiful lake, Como has wonderful views of the surrounding Alps. A cable car runs up to the village of Brunate, where you can see Switzerland on the opposite side.
The peaceful location is a favorite with celebs, but the town has been around since Roman times. In fact, 2 of its most famous sons – Pliny the Elder and Younger – are commemorated in statues on the façade of the 14th-century cathedral. The next-door Broletto dates to the previous century, and the remains of the medieval walls and Castello Baradello are even older and sit on a hill overlooking the town.
Much more modern in style, the Casa del Fascio was built during Mussolini’s rule. The streets between here and the waterfront are packed with shops, bars and restaurants, and Lake Como boat trips depart from the small marina.
The neighboring park houses a temple-like museum about Alessandro Volta (another former resident), and around the shoreline is elegant Villa Olmo which looks across landscaped gardens to the water’s edge.
The Como accommodations on Booking.com include luxury lakefront hotels, centrally located B&Bs and cheap apartments near San Giovanni Train Station, with direct services to Milan.

Como city itself can be visited in a day, after that the best is to take the bus and visit the cities around the lake like Mennagio - from there, take the ferry (7€/person total) and go visit Bellagio and Varenna.
You can visit villas; such as Carlotta (just before Mennagio) or Olmo (in Como).
In total, a trip between 2 and 3 days (max) is perfect.

Beautiful scenery.
Beautiful scenery. Recommend taking a trip on the fernicular for the views and a meal / drinks in the Locanda Milano hotel while up there.
Plenty of restaurants & bars to choose from in the city. The eateries with a view of the Cathederal are obviously more expensive than others further afield but not necessarily any better fare.
I was expecting it to be eye wateringly expensive but was pleasantly surprised that it was comparable to London / Brighton prices.
Advise picking up a street map from tourist info as the narrow streets can look very similar!

Stunning location, recommend you get up early to get the first boat to other towns on the lake. You have no queues, similarly with the funicular. We got an early car up to Brunate. Came down at 1pm and the queue to go up stretched onto the street.
Easy to get to from Milan (1 hr train)

Unfortunately we had a very bad experience with this accommodation. A few minutes before our arrival we received a call from Cascina Mirandola that there were no more rooms available for us. They had selected another hotel for us. There was no explanation or apology for this situation. The other hotel was very far away so we asked for another suggestion. We were assured that we would pay the same price as contractually agreed in the booking. As it was already evening, we drove to the suggested accommodation and stayed there overnight. The next morning we had to pay a much higher price for this overnight stay. The owner phoned Cascina Mirandola to clarify how to proceed. Casicina Mirandola promised to transfer the difference to us. After very slow communication by phone and email, we are still waiting for our money and an apology. Our calls are no longer answered. We feel cheated and cannot recommend Cascina Mirandola under any circumstances.

I must say, after everything I have heard about the beautiful Como, I was left disappointed. Maybe my expectations were a little to high but I didn't like it there. It is a cute town but nothing special. Doesn't feel Italian, if that's what you're looking for. Also, is it quite pricey. I will not be coming back here.

Breathtaking view of the lake and so many interesting places to visit. It was relaxing to simply be able to walk along the lake and be awed by the surrounding nature. It’s mesmerizing! I didn’t think I needed more time to spend in Como. I would have loved to stay longer to explore the many gems of these places.
But again, an opportunity to return in the near future.
We travelled to Como to watch the football, so the hotel was perfectly located. it was also walking distance from the train
and ferry station, near the lake, and close to the square and good restaurants.
The staff were great and really helpful, and they allowed us to stay in our room after checkout, which was really helpful do us.
The breakfast was really nice.
The room was very clean, and the beds very comfortable. it was also great value for money.
We will definitely come back!!
Visited many places in Italy and stayed in many hotel/apartments. This was the best. Best Host in Italy so far.
Great 👍 location, Clean, spacious what not. Hope to stay here again whenever I come to this region. Como Giovanni, Ferry Station at walking distance. Many restaurants, shopping nearby. Extremely good behaviour and extreme consideration in many issues from the host. I am really grateful 🙏 to the host.
Thank you once again.
This is a great little hotel, right in front of Lake Como! The staff are very nice and helpful, they even lent me an umbrella for a rainy day. The room was single, so it was little but it had a very comfy bed, was super clean and overall a good experience. The breakfast is also good, in fact better than what I’ve seen at other similarly priced facilities and they have real fresh orange juice as well (among other good things).
Everything was above my expectations!
* The location was great - quiet and at the same time in the heart of the Como city. Our room had an amazing view of the lake.
* The hotel was so clean, and well organized, with beautiful garden. It looks like a brand new! Rooms were clean and everyday we had a new soft towels. The bed was comfortable.
* The staff was very kind and helpful.
We were blown away with this lovely hotel. We were greeted by very friendly staff on arrival and were told that both of the rooms we had booked had been upgraded. Our daughters room had a spectacular view over the lake. The breakfast is served in the most magical room i have ever seen. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Lake Como
The location was great. Everything from booking to staying was comfortable and easy. Isabella was a warm, friendly and professional host.
The hotel had a very cute kitchen with coffee and tea and milk, which was great.
The location is optimal. Very close to the Lago Como Station, close to the ferry ride, and the supermarket for some snacks!
The hotel is very well located at only 10 mn walking from the city center, the train station St Giovani, and the lake. The hotel staff is very professional, they provide a complete information about the city at the check-in.
The room was clean, well equipped and spacious.
I recommend this hotel for your stay in this splendid town of Como.
The house was very clean, like a brand-new place, and it felt like a 5-star hotel. Besides, all the appliances were new and there was great noise isolation the way that even if it was next to the most crowded street in Como, our little baby could sleep well. The location is also perfect so, I highly recommend it for families.
The Hotel Firenze is a great little find in the absolute center piazza of Como. It is close to Lake Como and the boat rides on the lake. The staff was very helpful in answering questions and arranging taxis. I can't think of a better place to stay in Como for the location combined with the room price.
Everything was great. Alberto was terrific!! I know people complain Ed about the construction outside, but that didn’t bother us at all. Besides, that’s the city of Como and the hotel has no control over it. Wonderful stay.
The location- corner property overlooking lake Como and opposite ferry. Close to restaurants and cafes. Our room was clean and comfortable. It met our needs. Hotel does need some TLC but I would recommend it.
Hotel is in an excellent location near Lake Como. The breakfast was well stocked and constantly filled up by the staff. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. Lots of place’s nearby for food and drink.
The location is very close to the water. There is a beautiful restaurant which is part of the hotel. Close to Como Lago train station and the ferry point in Como o tour the lake.
Amazing hotel, stayed in the suit room. Very lage and comftble. Room is clean with all needed accomodation. Great lake view. Breakfast very rich, staff was kind.
Matia was such a great guide. He helped us with everything and made the whole experience so much better. The hotel was also nice with amazing views of Lake Como
Loved this hotel! The staff is SUPER nice and the room was very clean. It is situated very close to the lake of como, a 5 minute walk. Definetly recommend it :)
